A PLACE TO GLOW WITH GRACE

Give
us a place to glow with grace. Let this be our dream and goal forentering
the new millennium. What is a job if we do not enjoy it? What
is our true life's work but a place to shine? We all need a space to
do our thing, the thing that we really love to do! Some people live to cook,
some live to play a sport. Others love crafts, writing, or making music.
Whatever your thing is, it is a necessary activity. When we spend
that hour a day with our special interest, not only do we become experts
on the subject, but the activity does something to us as well. It recreates
us, puts our thoughts in order, relaxes us and becomes a true time of recreation
and centering. This interval of work becomes our play and we have fun,
enjoy the time, and breathe easy again. I imagine my place to glow with grace as being at the piano. I use this image in meditation even if I do not actually go to the piano. I just visualize and write about the piano bench as being my special place, my driver's seat, my chair in my work... and it is. If I am planning to write music I always begin with this piano image. It may take some time before the musical notes begin to form but this period of visualization is very important. I do not actually visualize what notes I will write, as some composers do, because I really have no idea at the beginning of a new piece. It is more a process of internalizing the silence. It seems such a magical happening when notes actually begin to appear. It seems truly a miracle when the process of writing begins to click in and a song of some sort is born! I may spend a long period of quiet time before, all of a sudden, music pours forth. I have no idea where it has all come from. I am just delighted to hear the song of the silence. Everyone has a place to shine and it must be found in order to live life fully. If you do not know where your special place in the world is, begin to draw. It doesn't matter what you draw. It may only be a shape at first but, if you persist, you will begin to make sense of the shapes. Perhaps they look like something or they remind you of an event or some place that you would like to be. Imagine. Tap into the power of your subconscious and let this power guide you. Create a space for yourself in your picture. Add paint or colour to your image, once you find it, to solidify the space in your mind. You are learning a new way of thinking. It won't be long before you too are finding your own special place to glow with grace. ______________________________________________________________ Joyce-Anne Locking is a new member of The League of Canadian Poets.
